What is rape and sexual assault

Here are some definitions that may be of use to you:

Rape

Non-consensual vaginal, anal and oral sex involving penetration with a penis.  While only a man can commit the act of rape, both men and women can be victims of rape.

Assault by Penetration

Non-consensual sexual penetration by parts of the body (other than the penis) or by objects.  Both men and women can commit the offence, and it can be committed against either a man or a woman.

Sexual Assault

Intentional sexual touching of your body without your consent.  Includes touching any part of your body, clothed or unclothed, either with their body or an object.

Administering a substance with intent

It is an offence to give someone any substance without their consent, and with the intention that sexual activity can take place.

What is Consent?

Someone consents if s/he agrees by choice, and has the freedom and capacity to make that choice.

I am not entirely sure what happened?

There are many circumstances which can lead to you not being able to remember some or all of the events. This can be because assaults are often traumatic and shocking, and/or when drugs and/or alcohol are involved which can affect your memory. This is nothing to be ashamed about, and does not mean that nothing happened or that it was your fault.  We can support you around the care you may need at this time but we cannot always confirm or rule out that something happened.  You may never discover what happened.
