The National Ugly Mugs Scheme

The National Ugly Mugs Scheme (NUM) enables sex workers to report crimes committed against them.

You can either report:

  • Through Open Doors who are members of the NUM scheme.
    (Call Jacqui on 07852 918 404)
    or
  • You can become a member yourself through the National Ugly Mugs website. (If you need help to join the scheme or to make a report, any of the Open Doors team will help you to do this).

Reports are then put into an alertthat goes out to other projects and sex workers to warn them of potential attackers.
Members of the NUM Scheme can receive alerts via SMS or email or by logging in through the website.
Once your membership has been confirmed you will be asked if you want to receive the alert in your language.

Open Doors will put together a monthly Ugly Mugs report covering the London area and can bring copies of Ugly Mugs to your place of work, send them to you by post, or you can pick them up at our clinics.
However, the NUM scheme produces alerts as-and-when an incident happens, keeping you more up to date.

Remember to write down all the details about an attack and attacker as soon as you can.
Attacks and abuse can be unpleasant and frightening.  We can offer you support if you have been a victim of any unacceptable behaviour whilst working.  For example, mugging, robbery, burglary abusive behaviour, rape or sexual assault.
